What Information to Add in A Lawyer’s Signature?

A lawyer’s email signature is expected to be different from every other regular signature. It should provide your contact information in a simple but attractive way. Most importantly it should connote professionalism and speak positive volumes about what clients can expect from you and your brand.

What then should a lawyer’s signature entail?

The basic rule for an email signature is to have a goal in mind. This will help you decide the quality and extent of information you want your reader to have access to, alongside the results you want the mail to achieve.

#1. Details of the sender

That settled, the first thing anyone would look out for in a mail is the details of the sender. For a lawyer, your name should not be plainly stated. It should include your title and/or position and the name of the company you work with.  Use your middle initial if you have one as research as shown that using a middle initial makes you come off as an intelligent personality. Your title should also include the specific type of law you practice. You can have a photo of yourself, just before your name as this will help your clients put a name to the face and relate with you better.

#2. Contact information

The contact information of your organization is the next area of focus. This should include a phone number, company logo, a website address and a link for easy access. Social links are becoming the order of the day and this can be included in your email signature. However, ensure you use professional and relevant social media accounts such as LinkedIn and Twitter. Have a responsive design in mind in the choice of your style as it is very likely the recipients of your mail will read it from a smartphone and/or related mobile devices. A responsive design will adjust for easy reading for mobile readers

#3. Legality

Irrespective of the final outlook of the email signature you have in mind, be mindful of the legal requirements that govern email signatures for businesses in the country or region you are in, so that you don’t break the law in a bid to enforce the law.

#4. Simplicity

Simplicity is the final key to a perfect email signature. This means that every information and inclusion should be concise and straight to the point. Your email signature should be easily understood at a glance and any information that seems overwhelming should be avoided as much as possible. This includes controversial quotes and sayings, particularly when your target audience is generic and you can’t predict or assume their preferences.  Email signatures with too much information are usually ignored and don’t usually achieve the desired result. So, it’s better to stay safe and have the positive feedbacks you desire.
